The first is a stylised \u003ci style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"\u003eparang rusak\u003c\/i\u003e, literally ‘broken \u003ci style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"\u003eparang\u003c\/i\u003e’ or ‘broken knife’ — one of the \u003ci style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"\u003elarangan\u003c\/i\u003e (forbidden) motifs of the royal courts of Yogyakarta and Surakarta, historically reserved for the royal family and believed to carry symbolic power, wisdom and cosmic energy.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5.0pt;\"\u003e\u003cspan lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-family: 'Akzidenz Grotesk BE',sans-serif;\"\u003eHere, however, the \u003ci style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\"\u003eparang rusak\u003c\/i\u003e takes on a distinctly Rifa’iyah character.
